Indeed Trini, how can we help salvage the dying Lake Buhi from far away? I wish we have the answer. Your were in the BOL first generation of Boie’nen who consistently advocated the awareness to Lake Buhi’s cause since 1998;

I really don’t know the answer for Lake’s woes. I posted this topic for discussion so, that all Boeinen will contribute comments for solving the problem of the dying lake. at this point, what are the elected officials are doing to solve this problem? Let’s spread this crusade of AWARENESS to support the cause of Lake Buhi.

I’m one of the concerned Boeinen in saving our Lake. I’m a nature lover, maybe because I grew up in Buhi which is rich in God’s creation.
This is a great topic I ever heard this year.
My suggestions are:
- I think we need to make one non-government organization. An org wherein their concern is about saving and preserving the natures of Buhi specially our lake (GREENPEACE and Bantay Kalikasan style). Mission and vision can’t be realize and materialize without a team who will reach for it. Yes we have local gov’t officials and they are doing something about this matter but I think they need help from their citizens.
- We need more seminars and trainings, combining opinions and suggestions on saving our Lake.
- We need to plan on how to make fund for this. Organization will not survive without funding, do you think you can save the lake without money? there are lots of things on how to raise a fund like live band concert, making website so that donors will be enlighten to help the org for mission and vision.
- The org need to have community emersion, we need to educate the boeinen on how to save the lake.
- Organization on action. all plans on savng the lake must be put in action.
- Evaluation, this org need to evaluate their action if it is effective or not.

Suggestions:
- Encourage your family/relatives/friends residing in Buhi to organize an organization or foundation to save Buhi Lake.
- Be a member of the organization/foundation working to save Buhi Lake.
- Give to fund raising projects of the organization working to save Buhi Lake.
- Recruit other Boinen that you know who are living abroad to be a member of the orgn/foundation.
- Research on the internet grants that have programs to solve environmental problems that the foundation can avail of.
- Send letters/e-mails to Buhi town officials and national govt. officials to save Buhi Lake.
- Send letters to the media in the Philippines to write about or show on their TV program the pollution problems of Buhi Lake to create social awareness.
- Go back to Buhi and start the foundation.
- Run in the next local election and win. Then have it your project to solve the environmental problems of Buhi with saving Buhi Lake as your #1 priority.

Hello, I agree “GREED” is the cause of our Buhi town poverty and disgrace of our natural product, especially the well known”SMALLEST FISH IN THE IN THE WORLD”. All the Buhinon must take pride and help one another with great pride of labor cooperation, and for those that can cooperate with finacial contribution will make our “LAKE BUHI” TREASURE AND PRIDE OF OUR TOWN. REGARDING OUR OFFICIAL I DO NOT KNOW – WHAT THEIR GOAL FOR OUR COMMUNITY IS – WE MUST HAVE AN HONEST COOPERATIVE, UNDERSTANDING OF OUR FUTURE.

These comments might be very unpopular to some people in Buhi but what the heck… Lake Buhi is supposedly for all Boienen & for the next generation to come, so might as well voice it out…
Isi man nya kadaklan na Boienen na ana numero onong culprit sa pag-ati’ nya lawod ta ay por medyo nya mga fishcages. Sa madaling sabi, ana mga fishcage operators, mala kasaday sanang porsyento nya tawo sa Buhi na nakikinabang. Samantalang, ana epekto nya sa kandang sadang pag operar grabe ana impact boko sana sa tubig kundi paki na sa kapaligiran ag sa kadaklan na gustong mamentenar ana gayon nya sa’ten na Lawod. Osto, malasiram ana tilapia na alin sa lawod dahil sa pirming pibudbod nin abono. Pero dapat isipen ta man ana long term effect nyaan. Grabe na baga ana ati! Kun di ako nalilingaw, Lake Buhi was voted as the cleanest Lake or body of water not too long ago. But now look at it? In a matter of few years we have seen the environmental deterioration because of poor or no supervision at all.
Nguwan amo adi ana onga ko… onong dapat tang gibohon bilang mga Buhi para maalim ana ngamin na fishcages sa lawod? Yes… ngamin & no exception! Can this be included in the election as some kind of Proposition? Will the Buhi LGU agree with this idea & stop issuing permits to operate the fishcages for now? If our incumbent & incoming Leaders will just set aside their election mind-set & bested interest, I think this will be a good start.
Some people might say… Amo, mala daling sabien pero dipisil imemplenar. Nya kundi kita magisip nin solusyon… kinaono pa? Pag dan’a kita? Amo an dipisil!!!

take turns in the lake, no favorites of who they are, i think every one will taste
of better living & environment.

Mala-uyay a comentar ni Edgar. mabalos na maray. Dahil sa binotohan ading saten na banwaan nin osad sa mga pinaka-malinig na lawed. So, let’s work together in order to revive the cleanliness of Lake Buhi. Our local government should and must take an affirmative actions to these serious problems. They are the driving force of our people to resolve the many problems of our dying Lake Buhi. Their determination and tasks to revive the reputation of being the cleanest lake are not easy for them. They should have a long and short goals for clean up activities. Involve every Boienen for this cause either physical or monetary help.

Marhay na aldao sainyo ngamen,
I have read everybodys comment in regards to helping, what to do and how to clean up our beloved lake as this is not only our pride being buhinon, but we all need to preserve it even if we don’t get our bread and butter from it.
My suggestions are to involved everybody including folks from abroad, government officials, teacher’s and student’s. Basically EVERYBODY……
As we are living abroad, our only help is by funding.
I already have suggested some positive options what we all can do; the local government should implement a law that the folks with pigeries nearby the shoreline, to build a compost for the waste of their
pigs as these is a very good use for fertilizing any kind of plants. If there is a spaceous land specifically (only) for waste products, these can turn into methane or gas which we all could use as electricity.
We can invlove teacher’s and those graduating student’s either elementary or high school students that, before they graduate they need to render certain hours as community works. This should be included in their extra curricular activities.
Those barrio captain’s living nearby the shoreline should ask the community to help and clean the shoreline on the weekend and if they can’t cope, they should ask an help from barrio captain’s who are in the poblacion or mountainous area in this way it is fair to everybody.
I agree for what all commented to have an organization. We can make use of the organization to apply to the government for funding. We can use our social worker around Mrs. Galarza I know definetely she knows how to make business proposal for funders.
Actually, with the teachers and students options, the options of the barrio captain, we don’t need so much money with it.

To back up the business proposal which I have stated just now; we do need of that so that the government will give money and in the proposal it will state what do you need the money for? They want to find out about that and if the money is just for nonsense of course government will not give any.

willie you are so brilliant! i salute you and all those you wanted to donate their precious time, talents, etc. let us aim for a greener and cleaner lake and return it to its original stage: the cleanest, safest and productive lake in the world and home of the smallest fish. this is our pride as boienen. My fellow Boienen lets help RESTORE and EXPLORE many possibilities to clean up the mess and SAVE Lake Buhi.

this is for tagasi’rip! you have a good suggestion on who will be incharge of the activities dahil ‘porak-porak’ kita ngamin. we need to identify a very responsible boienen there thru the suggestion or recommendation from our BOL Foudation President and someone permanentl living there. well, there’s always many ways to put someone incharge there on our behalf. video conferencing is now the popular ways and very efficient ways to communicate and give information via internet. all suggested officials will have to send acceptance first to the BOL Foundation President then we will go from that. This is a long process…we need a small but cohesive group of boienen in order to reach our goals thru different ways to seek monetary funds/contributions to all private and government and business entities.

WATER LILIES INVADE AND POLLUTE LAKE BUHI
FOR THE PAST 7 MONTH’S OUR OWN LAKE BUHI IS THE HEADLINE OF PHIL. INQUIRER REGARDING THE HIGH TOXIC EUTHROPICATION THAT DEVASTATED BY FISH CAGE OPERATOR’S INSTALLATION AND FISH MEAL DEPOSITS BENEATH THE WATER BED OF THE LAKE. THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL FACTORS THAT AFFECT THE WATER POLLUTION LIKE UNSCROPOLOUS SEWAGE DISPOSAL,RAMPANT GARBAGE THROWER AND CHEMICAL FERTILIZER THAT LEACH FROM OUR UNEDUCATED FARMERS USAGE.DEFORESTRATION ALSO IS ONE OF THE FACTOR FOR THE SOIL ERROSION THAT AFFECT THE WATER LAKE TURBIDITY AND HIG PH VALUE. THIS SOIL ERROSION WAS RECENTLY FELT BY THE BARRIO COMMUNITY IN ONE OF THE MOUNTAIN BARRIOS OF STA.CRUZ.
RECENTLY IN JUST THREE MONTHS AFTER THE LOCAL ELECTIONS HAVE ENDED,OUR OWN LAKE BUHI WAS INVADED BY THE INFLUX OF WATER LILIES WHICH COVERED ALMOST 3/4 % OF ITS WATER AREA. AS THE SOUTH EAST WIND DIRECTION, THE WATER LILIES THAT FLOAT IN THE LAKESHORE OF ITS SORROUNDING BARRIOS WAS CARRIED BY THE WIND TOWARDS THE LAKESHORE OF STA.ELENA FROM LA ROCA ENCANTADA UP TO THE SHORELINE OF MARLET AREA AND PART OF THE SABANG OLD LIGHT HOUSE.

THIS INFLUX OF WATER LILIES AND SOME HUMAN GARBAGE LIKE PLASTIC BAGS ARE COMMONLY SEEN IN THE PICTURE.THIS VAST OF WATER LILIES HYACINTH SPECIE THAT GROWS ABUNDANTLY MYBE DUE TO THE FERTILIZE WATER SUBSTANCE COMING FROM THE FISH MEAL SEDIMENTS THAT IS ABSORB BY THE ROOTS OF THIS SPECIE AND THE SUN RAYS PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
AS PER BUHI WATCH BLOGSPOT THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT INITIATE THE GENERAL CLEANING IN THE LAKE THROUGH ITS PERSONNELL MOVABILIZATION BUT THERE IS NO ACTION AT ALL. AS PER BOINEN CONCERN CITIZEN ONLY THE BARANGAY CAPTAIN OF STA. ELENA AND ITS BARANGAY KAGAWAD DO SOME CLEANING OF THIS WATER LILIES.
UPON SEEING THE COVERED WATER AREA OF LAKE BUHI, YOU CAN IMAGINE THAT’S LIFE OF TOLAPIA WHICH IS THE MASS PRODUCTION AND INCOME OF BUHI WILL BE DECREASE DUE TO LACK OF DISSOLVED OXYGEN THAT THE FISH NEEDED. AS FOR ALL ASSUMTIOM THE BEAUTY OF OUR OWN LAKE BUHI IS IN PERIL AND FILTY TO LOOK UP!!!!
IN BEHAFT OF THE SAVE LAKE BUHI MOVEMENT, I AM APPEALING TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AS WELL AS THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT TO HELP THE GENERAL CLEANING OF THE WATER LILIES THAT INVADE AND POLLUTE OUR OWN LAKE BUHI.IT IS JUST A BUHI SLOGAN “MAGKA BEREGKES SA ESAD NA KUSA PARA SA KAGAYUNAN SA NAMEMEYAN TANG ESAD SANA NA LAWED DA NA IBA!!!
